ABOUT SHELBY YOUTH SPORTS

Shelby Youth Sports (SYS) is a non-profit community based youth sports athletic association comprised of several member Areas located across the Mid-South Area.  We currently provide three sports through these areas, Cheer, Track and Field, and Football.

ABOUT SHELBY YOUTH SPORTS

Shelby Youth Sports is different that most other organizations, we are governed by a Board of Directors comprised of a few officers and representatives from each area that participates.  The area representatives set rules, policies and guidelines for the sports and the management of the association.  The officers are responsible for the administration of these rules as well as the day-to-day operations of the organization.  We think this creates a great organization, one that is reactive to the changing needs of our most important part…. The Youth Participants.

As condition of Association membership each Area offers program services in Track and Field, Cheerleading and Football to youth located within the local Area’s physical territories.  SYS assigns boundaries to areas in order to stabilize each member Areas participant base.  In addition to program service requirements, each Area must abide by and adhere to the SYS Constitution, Bylaws and Code of Ethics.

SYS is one of the largest providers of community based after-school sports programs in the Mid-South.

AREA ADMINISTRATION

Area administration is achieved by the election of a volunteer to act as that Area’s Area Director (AD). This individual is elected by the parent’s of the local area’s participants to a 2 year term and serves on the SYS Board of Directors as the elected represented for that Area at SYS Board Meetings.

It is the job of the AD to appoint and dismiss coaches and sponsors as well as insure that the program follows the Constitution, Bylaws and Code of Ethics of Shelby Youth Sports.

Booster Clubs

Local Area Booster Clubs provide funding and organization at the local area level and are responsible for all local funds.  These funds are primarily for but not limited to the purchase of uniforms, trophies and the day to day business operations of the Area.  Their operation is still governed by the articles mentioned above and the Area Director.
